War Shots: 2000 IR/CWCC NorthEast Fall Maul | |
A pickup battle was held September 9, 2000 at the Y2K IR/CWCC NATS Site of Friend's Park. Sponsored by the Belcamp Shipyards, a whole owned subsidiary of the Maryland Warship Club (MWC), the battle was in classic Axis (YEAH!!) vs Allied (boo!!) format. Two US North Carolina class battleships run by veterans Dave Lawrence and Dave Voghtman and the pristine USS Tennessee run by rookie Glenn Goetzinger faced the veteran Axis fleet composed of the two Veribus Unitis class battleships run by Steve Andrews and Will "I eat rookies for breakfast" Montgomery, John Boyer's SMS Von der Tann, and Ken Kelly's SMS Derfflinger. So it was a 17.5 unit to 16.5 unit battle, advantage Allies. For the second battle Glenn went home and Jeff Latham and his U.S. cruiser arrived to take his place. I wasn't there so I'll let the pictures speak for themselves, but it doesn't look like the Allies went home dry ;-)This was probably one of the best documented "pick-up" battles in my memory, with photos taken by at least three people, two of them non-participants, ie. - patient significant others ;-) Dave Lawrence's wife Suzzanne took this group of photos and they are in no particular order.
